Medi Spa
A growing trend in the spa business has been the integration of medical practices with therapeutics. Whether you are a traditional spa that has expanded into a MediSpa, or you are a physician looking to expand your business, MediSpas need specialized medical professional liability insurance. Specialty insurers with the expertise in medical malpractice insurance and medical services write the MediSpa accounts. There are many different types of treatment provided by MediSpas, which can be divided into a few categories:
  • Esthetic Spas (“day spas”)
  • Check-Up Spas (In addition to offering regulatory check-ups, clients will obtain recommendations for life-style changes, diet and exercise. Acupuncture, hydrotherapy, massages, and yoga may also be offered.)
  • Dermatology Spas (procedures such as facial/body treatments, hair removal, massage, and injections)

  • Specialty Clinics (focus on one specific medical service, for example laser hair removal services)
Whether a MediSpa or a professional organization aligned with MediSpas, medical professional liability coverage is a necessity. It covers MediSpas for services provided or not provided by a spa professional that result in injury to a patient (also called Errors & Omissions insurance). For this type of insurance, coverage is provided on a claims-made basis. Limits and deductibles typically start at $1 million, but are subject to vary depending on the size and type of organization. Because of the broad range of services provided by MediSpas, underwriting MediSpa medical professional liability insurance can be difficult.
